Day 24 (Friday)
Went on another walk today to Fort Wellington. Fort Wellington was built by the British in
the 19th century, it looks like a huge chess piece place on top of a
hill.
Day 25 (Saturday)
Changeover day. We
packed and went next door to say thank you to Tatiana (or Titsey Litsey as
Tracey has decided to call her). She
wasn’t in so we just put the key through the door.
We caught the costal ferry at 2pm for the 4.5 hour trip to
Dubrovnik. This ferry starts at the top
of Croatia and takes 2 days to reach Dubrovnik calling in at most of the
islands en route it then turns round and goes all the way back up again. When the ferry started we all joined in a
kind of game. At various intervals water
would come from the ceiling. You never
knew exactly where from or whether it would be a few drips or a small
torrent. We got bored of this game after
a while so we went out on deck to enjoy the views.
Once at the port of Dubrovnik (Gruz) it was time to do
battle with the Croatian bus system again for the short journey to the Pile (Pee-lay)
Gate on the edge of the old town. Our
host this time was Piero (airbnb again – we should charge them for advertising). Piero originally said he would meet us at the
Pile Gate but we received an email just before we left Korcula saying he was
off to Italy and we’d have to find our own way.
After a few wrong turnings in the stifling heat we
eventually found it and were greeted by Piero’s mother. Piero’s mother said she couldn’t speak
English but managed to explain to us that her son had double booked us and we’d
have to spend our first night in a downstairs room. We think the room belonged to either her of
her mother but it had air conditioning so we didn’t care.
After a shower we went out to explore the city. It was
rather a shock to be amongst so any
people after weeks of relatively small towns.
It has the potential to be one of our favourite cities as there are no
cars and everything can be reached on foot.
We found a nice café bar and sat and listened to a musical trio playing
Johnny Cash and Louis Armstrong type songs.

Glad you are still enjoying the heat - still raining here........
